Golden Opus

  • Golden Opus. I designed Golden Opus for my family to experience sailing in the South Pacific Ocean. The yacht was built in Auckland New Zealand and our first cruise was to Fiji and Vanuatu. Eventually, Golden Opus sailed from New Guinea in the west to Palma de Mallorca in the east. We also experienced passing through the Panama Canal.
  • While Golden Opus was intended for cruising, her underwater profile shows a yacht designed for fast-sailing performance.
  • This sail plan for Golden Opus was designed to allow one person to sail the yacht. The headsail was designed to be self-tacking.
  • The general arrangement of Golden Opus was designed to include two double guest cabins and one bunk cabin for the children. Two crew members also slept in a bunk cabin. The primary living area was located so it was possible to have good visibility from the dining and social areas.
